A Biblical Understanding of Baptism – Sermon – June 06 2010

A Biblical Understanding of Baptism – Sermon – June 06 2010

Keeping in mind the words of the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 3: 14-16,  “always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and respect”  What if someone challenged you concerning your faith in what it means to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit?  Why should we be baptized?  Is Baptism a work that we do for God, or is Baptism, something God does for us?  Lets not worry about what the different Religions or Denominations say about Baptism, what does the Holy Scriptures say about it to us?  Is baptism necessary for salvation?  What is conveyed to us in the waters of baptism?  How can water do such great things, such as uniting us to Christ in His death and resurrection, or to help us put on Christ , and belong to Him?  Who receives the gifts offered in baptism?  Why baptize infants?  Are we saved when we believe or when we are baptized?
