Why Are There So Many Denominations? – Sermon – August 18 2013

Why Are There So Many Denominations ? – (Example: ELCA and LCMS Differences ) – Sermon – August 18 2013

Ever wondered, why there are so many denominations in the world, so many divisions in the visible church of Christ on earth?  Shouldn’t we all just be one?  Can’t we all just agree?  Can any one denomination be right?  What should be our attitude toward people in other denominations?

What does God say to us about this in His Word?  Are we lowly, meek, enduring each other patiently with love in Christ?  If the basis for true unity in the church, according to Jesus Christ, is that we are all in agreement on the truth of God’s Word as it appears in the Bible, what is the trouble, that causes all the division amongst churches today?

Do any of the churches today, flatly deny the teachings of scripture and say God’s Word is in error?   What is the Historical Criticism approach to teaching the Bible, and how does it lead churches astray, and against the word of God, and therefore, against God?

Listen for these questions and answers about Why Are There So Many Denominations ? – (Example: ELCA and LCMS Differences ), below in the 1-part Video , or the 1-part Audio MP3 Sermon below the Video.

Scriptures below from the church bulletin used in the Sermon:

Psalm 63: 3-11,  Deuteronomy 13: 1-5,  Acts 20: 24-35,  Matthew 7: 15-23

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Psalm 75

‘1 We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near;
people tell of your wonderful deeds.

2 You say, “I choose the appointed time;
it is I who judge with equity.

3 When the earth and all its people quake,
it is I who hold its pillars firm.[b]

4 To the arrogant I say, ‘Boast no more,’
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns.[c]

5 Do not lift your horns against heaven;
do not speak so defiantly.’”

6 No one from the east or the west
or from the desert can exalt themselves.

7 It is God who judges:
He brings one down, he exalts another.

8 In the hand of the Lord is a cup
full of foaming wine mixed with spices;
he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth
drink it down to its very dregs.

9 As for me, I will declare this forever;
I will sing praise to the God of Jacob,

10 who says, “I will cut off the horns of all the wicked,
but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.”’

After reading Matthew 3: 1-10, do you think after learning about the purpose John the Baptist served announcing Christ’s coming, do you think we still need fire and brimstone preaching like this in church?  Do we still need to hear about the wrath of God, His righteous anger, His vengeance, His destructive power?
